Getting Here and Around

The East of England is easily accessible by public transport (train and bus services) - whether you are planning a Green holiday or day trip

Click here for our Getting Here and Around section - which will help you to plan
your journey responsibly.

East of England Tourism has teamed up with First Capital Connect and National Express to offer you competitive discounted ticket offers to get you to the region by train - a good way to save you money and reduce your holiday carbon footprint.

We make every effort to encourage visitors to use public transport - but, if against all the odds, you prefer to drive to your chosen destination in the region, then consider giving the car a break when you get there - even if only for a day. It seems pointless to spend time looking for a parking space, when you can use public transport connections to reach most major holiday destinations.

Here are a few useful tips if travelling by car:
- If coming as a group, try to car share.
- Fill in every seat in your car.
- Drive to the speed limit.
- Make use of the Park and Ride schemes around the region.

Cycling and Walking

Jump on your bicycle and explore England's Cycling Country, or put on your shoes and explore England's Easy Walking

Why not leave your car at home, and explore the East of England by cycle. The region is served by an excellent rail network, with regular fast and frequent trains running to all major cities and towns. There are two main train operators: First Capital Connect and National Express. There is normally a small charge for carrying bicycles, and you may need to reserve a space in advance. Visit our Getting Here and Around section for further information.

Not got a bike? - then check out our network of cycle hire locations in the region.
