Seasonal Treats
---------------------------------------------------
What's in Season?
July
Visit our farmers' markets and farm shops - piled high with locally grown fruit and vegetables. Pack a picnic, including the ultimate pleasure of strawberries and cream - alternatively create jams and chutneys at home for all year round treats. Delicious new potatoes are a great accompaniment to a Ploughmans of lettuce, cucumber and beetroot.

August
High summer is here - and with it juicy tomatoes and plums, garden peas, blackberries picked from hedgerows and the greengage, a small round green plum which was introduced to Britain by Sir Thomas Gage of Suffolk. Game has always been a favourite delicacy in the East of England - why not cook up some local meats on the barbie?

September
Get ready for a bumper autumn harvest. Go picking for plums and blackberries to make heart-warming crumbles. Look out also for locally grown apples - and take a wander through an ancient orchard, such as Willock Farm at Wisbech or Shenley Park (nr. St. Albans). Delicious game is on the menu - vension, partridge and wood pigeon.
