Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban
This massive Norman Abbey Church was built over the Shrine of St Alban using Roman bricks which are still visible. The church is set on a hill overlooking the site of the medieval orchard and lake and of the Roman town of Verulamium.
Inside you will see its stunning and unique wall paintings, the restored Shrine housing the relic of St Alban, the very rare 15th century watching loft depicting humorous scenes of everyday life and you will be able to walk the length of England's longest nave.
Admission is free. Group tours can be booked through the cathedral office, which can also give details of family activities school holidays. This award winning Education Centre welcomes school groups. The modern Chapter House contains our gift shop and Cafe, offering a wide range of quality homemade meals and snacks.
Easy direct rail access from central London (20 minutes) and from the M25 and M1.
