Houghton Hall & Gardens

  

Houghton Hall was built in 1720s by Sir Robert Walpole, Britain's First Prime Minister. It is one of the grandest Palladian Houses in England, designed by James Gibbs and Colen Campbell with the interiors by William Kent and opulently furnished to reflect Walpole's status. Houghton retains most its original furnishings.

The Hall is surrounded by a 450 acre Deer Park home to a spectacular herd of White Fallow deer and other exotic deer. The 5 acre award winning Walled Garden is divided into 'garden room's including Kitchen garden, spacious herbaceous borders, a formal rose parterre, glass houses and sculptures and a water feature by Jeppe Hein. Contemporary sculptures are displayed around the grounds including works by James Turrell, Richard Long, Stephen Cox, Anya Gallaccio and Zan Wang.

In a special event for Summer 2013 - "Houghton Revisited" - the magnificent art collection of Great Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, is reassembled in its spectacular original setting - the State Rooms at Houghton Hall. The Model Soldier Museum contains over 20,000 models in various battle formations. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive collections in the world.
